Beautiful Sillery- A Unknown offbeat of Darjeeling Hills to witness the best of Majestic Kanchanjangha.

Now Kalimpong is different from Darjeeling, the twenty-first district of the West Bengal. Plenty of tourists are going to North Bengal to see Kanchenjunga closer to the eye, or else we can say since making a change of air. The best alternative for making a change of air is the lap of the Himalayas. Where nature is liberal, clear light, breeze and rays of sun at the dawn. In one word, Sillery Gaon is the main attraction of seeing this pleasant look of nature. Nearly four hours of a ride from New Jalpaiguri. One and a half hours from Kalimpong.

Majestic Kanchanjangha.

Beautiful Sillery- A Unknown offbeat of Darjeeling Hills To Witness The best of Majestic Kanchanjangha. - A Brief Description:
In the hills of Darjeeling range, an unknown wonder is the Sillery Gaon. It is the first night-stay on the Silk Route journey.

Keeping Kanchanjanga in front, at a slight height of 6000 ft  comprising few 30- 40 families of  Gurung, Thapa and Tamang, makes the small hilly village Sillery. In this small village also, they worship of Goddess Saraswati. Nice to see. Ninety kilometers away from New Jalpaiguri and only 9 km away from Pedong, the hilly road surrounded by oak and pine leads you to Sillery. Fresh cold breeze of Himalaya, sound of mountainous birds and warmth of Kanchanjangha, this is Sillery- wrapped in glamor. It seems as if the village has been just built; the work of building the Homestays is still going on. The nearest market is Pedong Residential School St. Xaviers is also there in Pedong. You will definitely like the momos at some distance towards down from the road on Pedong Market.

Getting fascinated by nature, there we landed at NJP and leaving Kalimpong, we reached Sillery through Pedong. A hilly region so single road and you may have to face traffic jams. Which will remind you about our city Asansol. Too many vehicles, especially in the peak seasons, but only a single road, that too not that broad. But everything gets vanished once you reach Sillery. At every turn off street touch of freshness of the mountain, made by own art of nature. There is no hotel in Sillery. The local people arrange food and stay for their guests at their own houses. They take nice care about their guests. The present name of this is: "Home Stay". We stayed at the Homestay of Tamang, which is the largest Homestay of Sillery. Houses made of wood. Including both up and down there is a total of 10-12 rooms of Tamang, but only five of which are made of bricks. Pleasant and beautiful atmosphere. Their houses may be small but they are very sincere and caring about their guest.

Taking any train going to North Bengal you can reach NJP in the next morning. From there you can book an Innova/bolero to Sillery Gaon. We had Booked earlier- to book click here. Riding that car, we reached Sillery after the noon nearly at evening. Everyone knows that the last 4-5 km route of Sillery is in quite bad condition. In one word, no actual road is there. The car moves over stones.

Reaching there at noon we had a nice hot rice, curry, cauliflower and egg (lunch) was, really pleasing. We went out for an evening stroll in Sillery. Along with us joined the small member of the Tamang family. Walking up on the hill is pretty hard.
Small wooden house on the hill. In the courtyard of single and double storey houses, there are small orchids and flowering trees with various colorful flowers. It will fix your eyes. I felt to watch that for the life long.
Earlier it was part of Darjeeling district, now in Kalimpong. But it lies very near to Sikkim; Hence, it serves as the first night stay at the Silk Route Tour. In the evening, hot tea and veg pakora are very imposing. It feels superb to drink tea/coffee several times in the cold season. At the end of the Sillery there is a playground surrounded by rows of pines. And next to the field lies sloping quarry, despite that the cricket of the youth has not stopped. After having a roam around the ground, we reached our homestay. At night, while having dinner, we heard the story of building up the village from the Tamang family.

The name Sillery came from the name of the tree which used to
grow here, since the British period the production of Shincona is being promoted here. The main ingredient in the production of malaria medicine is the bark of this cinchona tree. Now electricity has reached the village. But the service goes off for long. However, electricity stays at night, not at day. Butof course, there is a generator system here. The tourists at night gather in the kitchen because of the arrangement of the fire there. It feels like we are in our own home. Currently, there are over 100 Homestays in Sillery. Cultivation is very mere. Homestay is the only alternative path of earning. "Camp Fire" at night is one of the main attractions of Sillery. Hence, each and every Homestay has an arrangement of "Camp Fire". Having Roti and chicken at night, I went to sleep with the hope To Witness The Best of Majestic Kanchanjangha.

From the courtyard of our homestay, we can see the Kanchanjangha fine. And if you could go much nearer, then nothing to say. In the morning, the sight of the sun rays on the snowy mountain is renovating. Sometime red aura, sometimes rays of red aura. All in all a wonderful natural view, which can't be explained in words, only could be felt and felt and felt....

But this wonderful wonder suddenly disappears in a little while as the day morning passes. Hence, the main attraction of Sillery is to witness the best of majestic Kanchanjangha at the dawn. Captured the scenes on camera, had tea and went out for a little trekking. As if fire reddish mountainous elegance covering us with its hands. We connivance the bone shivering cold. During night, here temperature falls down to the 4-5 degree Celsius.
One of the prominent viewpoints of Sillery is RomitoDara. 2 km away from the homestay. As if I could see the snow-covered Kanchenjunga more closely. Our guide was one of the smallest members of Tamang family. Way is amidst the forest. But unfortunately there inhibits no other creature except rabbit. The sound of falling leaves comes to the ear. Winding path rips through the chest of jungle, here the nature is silent. Crowd of anonymous butterflies on the branches of the trees. In the morning, chirping of birds could be heard. In no time, we reached the end of the hill. In front of the eyes except Kanchanjangha there were peaks, like Pantim, Koktang, Narsingha and other Ranges and Teesta river. We returned home enjoying the unspeakable joy of nature.

After returning we had our breakfast. Cauliflower curry with hot "LUCHI".  With tea/coffee takes quite a lot different. They are always engaged in the service of their guests. Because the money they earn from the guests is their livelihood. After breakfast, we went out again to witness history. Though all of our members didn't go, but no problem. After trekking 4 Km we reached at the ruins of Dumsang Fort. The locals sometimes call it as Damsangbari also.

The fort is located at the head of the creeping Dansang Forest. From the local I came to know that the third king of Bhutan "Chelok" had built the fort. Over time, this man-made vacant castle has now become demolished. Of course, many are not going there now even when they come to Sillery. The castle contains the king's bedroom, the queen's bedroom, the king-queen's bath place, a stable of horses and many such things still reminds us about the golden age. An exciting experience trekking through the woods. But there will be some work on the uphill and downhill path.

From Sillery you can visit Rishikola, Rikisum View Point, Kolkalam, Ichhe Gaon, Ramdhura, etc. Like Little

known places. On the way back, Silent Valley and Tsan-Chen Darji Monastery can be considered. The Silent Valley is named with absolute perfection. Quiet and secluded place, not even chirping of birds can be heard. Almost 300 years old monastery the Tsan-Chen Darji Monastery. Bhutanese had built this monastery some 300 years ago. It lies as a symbol of peace among the green. Children's School at Pedong St. Xavier's is also worth watching. A school at a little downhill in the middle of nature. The school in a secluded environment.

Now it's our turn to return the next day. We returned through Kalimpong. We went to a few places. The Hanuman Temple in Kalimpong is also a kind of it- must see. Huge Hanuman statue. Have to walk up some distance. The entire city of Kalimpong can be seen from the Hanuman Top. There are beautiful statues of Swami Vivekananda in Kalimpong Bazaar. But still the best place of Kalimpong is the Delo. Delo is now the most popular and famous place in Kalimpong. Most of the tourists are gathered in Deo Hills. Delo place is really beautiful, mind blowing. The Delo Bungalow is really beautiful. There are many houses to stay. But the cost of food and stay here is high. House rent is between Rs. 3100 to Rs. 5000 or even higher in peak season. But you can get much cheaper deals, trust me, I have searched the whole internet and making this available to you... Just have a checkout... And obviously book if you like. Click Here or The Image Below

The beauty of Kalimpong can be seen standing in Delo, In the morning, if you can get the gorgeous image of Kanchanjungha. The houses are very beautiful.

In front of bungalow, Huge places and equipment for kids to play. Various seasonal flowering plants in the front garden. Beside that railing and the slopes of the hill next to the railing. The entry charge of Delo is Rs. 20 per head and have to park the car in outside Delo. When visiting Kalimpong, you must see the beauty of Delo. The delusion of the mind-blowing form of green Delo, we set out towards New Jalpaiguri. Amazing Kanchanjungha, green hills, Sillery's beauty and hospitality of the people of the hill, leaving all these back we have to reach destination back. Gradually, we came down to New Jalpaiguri station, collecting the refreshing experiences of BEAUTIFUL SILLERY.
